Apple Iphones: Is it worth it?

With many cheaper and better smartphone alternatives on the market today, is it really worth to buy the expensive iphone? There are of course smartphones that are priced same or higher than iphones but those smartphones offers way more than iphone offers. For example let’s take a look at Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Apple Iphone 6 Plus which are price almost same.

 

Samsung is a little bit more expensive but gives you more features. It has octa-core processor, bigger and better screen, better camera, better RAM, and better value for money.

Iphone has better build quality, better aesthetics, and doesn’t look cheap, well it is not cheap anyway. It feels really nice in hand and nice looking.

Benchmark

While Iphone only has a dual core processor compared to samsungs octa-core, it can really keep up with processor performance. Samsung is the clear winner here but considering that iphone only has dual core lower speed processor, we are guessing that if only they are using same type of processor maybe iphone can easily kick the samsung out of the water. The advantage of iphone is that they are also the one developing the operating system, thus they can optimize the OS to improve speed.

Moving from Android to IOS

I have been using android smartphone for more than 3years and I like it a lot. Last year I decided to try using Iphone. I just want to know why many people prefer this thing despite of the insane high price. I want to understand why it is such a hit for most popular people on earth. I want to know what IOS can offer that Android cannot. And this turns out that this is not a good idea for me, well everybody has its own preference and it is not my preferred systems.




Pros

1. Good Design and Build –  Apple is known best product aesthetics. Their macbook look better than any laptop, IMACs have awesome design and the iphone is very attractive and nice looking. In general Apple products are simple yet elegant.
2. More Stable OS – IOS is more stable than android. Android tends to slow a bit overtime. I general, apple products is less prone to viruses.

Cons

1. Too Expensive – Everyone knows it, Apple gives you less than what you pay for. For the same price, you can get way more than what apple is offering.
2. Less Customization – You can’t customized much on IOS compared to android. The built in music player has no equalizer and other audio enhancements. The camera also has less controls. I think it is the main goal of Apple – to make things simple. Making things simple means letting go of some advanced features and settings.
3. No 3G only connection – This is one of the feature that is very useful to me and only available on android. What is does is that it will let you force your device to connect on 3G only. Iphone IOS doesn’t do this, you can only choose your preferred data connection but the moment it sees that the 2G signal is stronger than the 3G/LTE signal, it will automatically switch to 2G making your internet connection unusable.  And that’s not all, it will take a while before it will switch back to 3G/LTE even if you force it.
4. USB Flash Storage – Android devices can be used as a USB flash drive and you can use it to store any type of file. Iphone does not do that.
5. Proprietary Connector –  The lightning connector is only used by IPhone, so if left your charger and nobody on your group uses an IPhone, you’re dead.

Conclusion

Iphones are great yet simple and stands out of its elegant looking. It is simple and easy to use but being simple means sacrificing some advanced settings. For example there are very limited controls for the camera unlike Androids which has more controls like exposure compensation, white balance, resolution and so on. The built in music player also has no equalizer and other audio enhancement features. You can’t lock your phone to 3G/LTE connection only. This is not good if you are travelling and watching youtube video, when the 3G/LTE signal drops and your iphone sees that the 2G signal is stronger then it will switch to 2G immediately. This will make your youtube stop and you can’t use internet anymore. I think apple is avoiding an idiot user to mess up with this. If someone set and lock his phone to 3G only and went to a place where there is no 3G signal available, the phone will display no signal. If you are not a techie person and this happens, you might think your phone is broken. Thanks to apple engineers for making iphone an idiot proof system by limiting the functions so you wont worry on those complicated settings. If you just want to take a photo and don’t mind on settings like exposure compensation, white balance, image quality, etc then iphone is perfect for you. If you just want to listen to music and don’t mind on equalizer and other sound enhancement settings then the iphone is for you.
