Heneral Luna: Bayan Muna
Mr. Jerrold Tarog a multi-awarded filmmaker since 2005 directed and edited this film. According to him, he edited the film for 3 months and another 2 months for the sounds. Everything is pre-planned, well researched detail by detail.
The setting,as much as they could they copy what’s from the history they do and whatever they lack they recreate to delivery the message and essence of Heneral Luna. The camera angles, frames and delays are precise. They studied even the shadows and lights of Spolarium and used it in the film. The fabrics were chosen according to the time setting. They have to study war films for this.
The first shoot was last March 2014 in Tanay, Rizal and it was launched this year October 9, 2015 in the Philippines and will be open in cinema across North America starting on October 30.
It is not all about him but about the people who sacrificed for the sake of liberty and the significant events in the past which reflects the present.
It’s very very sad that history is actually still happening in this generation. I just wish that the audience will get that and that’s the gift that we can give them if they watch this film. -John Arcilla
Heneral Luna in the film is exactly who he is the history. He is blunt and poetic. Mr. Tarog said that when Luna shows his poetic side he there is a long steadycam shots.
In the film, he shows how to be brave like in the scene where he has to ride a horse and run ahead of his soldiers and attack the Americans. Aside from that he is a real person. Even though most of the time he is hot-tempered. He still crack jokes and he has a smoking vice which is commonly happening today. There are no hidden issues in the film. What the audience should see is in there. Even the President of the Philippines during that time is not excused in the law.
This film showed that every Filipino after watching must reflect on their own lives and evaluate. Am I one the traitors of my country? What I am doing for my country? Am I one of selfish people? Am I the reason the Philippines is divided into pieces?
Heneral Luna ends with an inspiring and awakening reminders to viewers. There are no villains in the story. It is the people who compromise knowing the truth that no should be selfish. If this country needs freedom, each one should be freed first on their own ambitions, and divided regions.
Our country needs radical leaders, history makers and someone will stand out among others! In different little ways Fillipinos can do more what Heneral Luna did. What can you do?
