How to Avoid Computer virus
Computer virus can be very annoying and in some cases dangerous. Virus are made with a purpose and most of them are used to steal informations such as bank account informations. They are actually tool for hackers and it is like a hackers pet that is trained for whatever the hackers want.
Here are some ways to avoid getting computer virus:
- Avoid using hacked or cracked softwares
cracked software are software that are modified by the hackers to work without purchasing the software. Since they are hacked softwares, the hacker can easily insert a virus with it. This scenario is not always happening but there is always a chance that a hacker inject something with it. -
Be careful on clicking links
Links can be deceiving but it is easy to spot a fake link. Most of them are alerting you that there is a virus on your computer and instructing you to click the link to remove it. Don’t ever trust and click those links. There is no way a website can detect a virus on your computer. An anti-virus software takes some time to scan your computer so how can a website detect it that fast? -
Keep your anti-virus software updated –
Anti-virus relies on list of virus identity that is stored on their database. Every time a new virus comes out, the anti-virus company decode it and add it on their database. So if you have not updated your anti-virus, you computer is at risk of the new virus. -
Avoid using USB flash drive on Computer shops
– most of the computer shop don’t have good anti-virus or at least a good way to avoid virus. I always encounter it on most computer shop I visited. You can just use online storage like dropbox or google drive to prevent virus. In case you have no choice, here are tips to avoid getting your computer get virus from USB on computer shop:- Do not click on auto-run
- Do not click on shortcuts file on USB drive
- Make sure you have an updated anti-virus software before plugging in your USB drive
- Plug the USB drive on an apple or linux computer and delete all the shortcut and exe files that you don’t recognize. Virus are not cross compatible meaning it wont run on an apple MacOS and linux computers. Most virus are made for windows so you are less likely to have virus on Apple MacOS, Linux and other operating systems.
- Keep your files on other storage drive – if you only have one hard disk, partition it into 2 and keep all your files on the other drive with no windows installed. Most virus wont infect the drive with no windows installation. In case your computer got virus, you can just re-format your computer.
