KN KNIGHT R52 Dash Cam review
KN R52 is a rearview mirror dash cam for vehicles. It is place on the top of your rearview mirror basically replacing it. What’s great about it is that it has dual camera and both are simultaneously recording. The front camera is recording 1440p resolution which is fantastic and the back camera record 720p resolution which is way ahead of its competition on this price point. But is it really worth it your money?
It has been 7 months since I bought this gadget for my new car. I have chosen this over the other because of it promising specs on paper. First of all it claims to have 1440p video resolution which is great. Almost all rearview mirror dash camera on this price point only offers 1080p video resolution. It also has 170 degrees field of view for the front camera. This is very wide view because most of the dash camera only offers around 140 degrees field of view and yet they are sufficient for dash camera use. One of the big reasons why I bought this gadget is that you can use this as a back parking camera. The back camera claims to have 140 degrees field of view and most back camera only have around 120 degrees field of view. So having a 140 degrees field of view will be better because they will be less blind spots. It also has a touchscreen by the way.
BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!
I was very excited to try this because of its very nice and outstanding specs on paper. The packaging is very nice and presentable. It really looked like a very expensive gadget. The build quality is also good but not outstanding. But those good impressions stop there… :-/
Video Quality
It claims to have a video resolution of 1440p but in reality it only outputs 1080p video. What a disappointment that have listed this feature on its box. I already tried to change the video resolution to 1080 to 1440p and to 1080p again but it still output 1080p video.
They claim that the rearview camera records at 720p but in reality it is only 480p!
They claim that this product is using a Sony lens but with the video quality I am seeing, I am not convinced!
The biggest disappointment to me is the rearview camera field of view is said to be 140 degrees but in reality is only have about 60 degrees! As you can see on the image below, the field of view of the rear camera is very limited. If you will use it for parking, you wont be able to see on the sides.
The Lane Departure Warning feature is a good addition but a useless feature. It is not that good and you will prefer to turn it off because it is very useless.
To sum up my disappointments:
- It has 1080p resolution and not 1440p!
- Video quality is not good so it is unlikely that it has a sony lens!
- Rear camera records at 480p and not 720p!
- Rear Camera has 60 degrees field of view and not 140 degrees!
- Front view camera is not 170 degrees but it is more likely to be 140 degrees!
So is it worth your money?
Probably not! It has same feature with many dash cams that are way below its price of around Php 4000.
