All of us hate computer virus, they are annoying and sometimes makes our computer slow. In order to avoid computer virus, you need to know the sources of computer virus first. Here are top 5 sources of computer virus:

5. Freeware – Freewares are short for free software’s. You can download it for free without any fee. They are free for some reasons.:

  • Evaluation software – They are given for free as a evaluation software for a prospect customer that will eventually will purchase the software. This kind of freeware usually has limitations compared to its paid version like limited functionality of limited time of usage. This kind of freeware is also free from any virus as long as you downloaded it from its official website. Example: Photoshop trial software which expires in 30 days
  • GNU Software – is a free collaboration software and Its aim is to give computer users freedom and control in their use of their computers and computing devices, by collaboratively developing and providing software that is based on the following freedom rights: users are free to run the software, share it (copy, distribute), study it and modify it. This kind of freeware is also free from any virus. Example: GIMP – GNU Image Manipulation Program
  • Malware – is short for malicious software. They are freeware that has hidden agenda on your computer. Some of them pretend to be antivirus software but they are actually infecting your PC with virus that stills information like credit cards, bank accounts etc. If you are using you computer for financial transactions, better avoid using freewares like this. Tip: Use only free software with paid versions or use GNU software. Beware if the software doesn’t offer any GNU license or paid version.

4. Flash drive – It is usual to get virus from a flash drive or any other storage that was used on an virus infected PC. Avast and other antivirus offers free version, it is always a good idea to install it and always update its virus database to stay secure.

if you receive an email from someone you don’t know asking to click on a link or open a
file attachment, there maybe a potential hazard for your PC. Verify that the sender has legit email address. If the email claims to be from DHL then the email address should have like “@DHL.com” email address and not “@yahoo.com” or “@gmail.com” and so on.
2. Software crack – Software crack are executable software used to crack a trial software to become a full paid version without purchasing the software. Some of these tools are called keygen, patch or loader. Not all cracks are infected with virus but bear in mind that cracks are illegal software so avoid using it.

Some hackers are using porn sites to target vulnerabilities in website browsers and this affected both PCs and Mac computers. Hackers could then obtain personal information using keystroke logging software maliciously installed on your computer.
