Dancing has been part of the Filipino culture, before the colonization of other countries; we had our own. But, as time goes by it seems we became followers of other countries’ dances rather than of our own. Whenever new dance craze is in demand like Harlem Shake, Psy’s Gentleman, Gwiyomi, Oppa Gangnam Style, Gimme Gimme and now the latest in trend; Watch me nae nae . We, Filipinos would take a stand and do the dance moves also. This shows that majority of the Filipinos are highly expressive through dancing.  More and more videos are uploaded online by Filipino netizens to showcase their talents. 

Did you know that this trending celebratory dance was invented by WeAreToonz and inspired by Martin Lawrence’s sitcom in 90’s, Martin. He played the  female role as Sheneneh Jenkins. I think it is not far from the term “naenae”. Feel free to watch the following videos for more details.
