Who are the greatest fans?
We, Filipinos, have proved ourselves to the entire world in every aspect possible especially being the greatest fans. Manny Pacquiao in the boxing scene, Michael Cinco and Francis Libiran in fashion designing, Marlisa Punzalan and Lea Salonga in singing prowess, and Brillante Mendoza for his breakthrough films that earned him a Cannes Film Festival award for Best Director—the list doesn’t end there. Even our greatest performers (no pun intended) are now setting the Asia’s Got Talent stage on fire, getting in with the crowd shocked of what our fellas did. But, who would’ve thought that we aren’t just world performers and anything in between, but we are also the greatest fans as well?
Personally, I couldn’t bring myself to believing that famous people consider us as greatest fans. Of all the things we could be famous about, being the greatest fans doesn’t really come to mind. I mean, the Filipinos as the craziest, most welcoming, most passionate (they would build up tents outside the mall so that they could buy tickets as the first in line—1D *weep)? Could this be considered as a national achievement?
Apparently, Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo had said that we are the greatest fans during an interview with Rappler at an exclusive press interview in Moscow,Russia. Yes, the contender who ousted our representative Janine Tugonon at the pageant, Olivia Culpo, yes, that’s her. Also, in news of a local newspaper, the Philippines had ranked first as the ‘most obsessed’ fans of the novel-turned-movie The Fault In our Stars by New York Times Bestselling author John Green. It’s not the USA or any other countries that are seemingly fonder of English novels but it’s us, the Filipinos.
The world may progress in robotics, the people may be the smartest when it comes to the advancing world, but we are the best when it comes to loving and supporting our life-savers/idols.
