World’s largest Hard Drive
Samsung made a history when it unveils the world’s first 2.5″ 16TB Solid state drive. This new SSD is called PM1633a with a total usable storage space of 15.36TB (equivalent to 15,360GB), which is huge considering that most laptops today only has 500Gb.
By comparison, the largest capacity of conventional hard drives made by Seagate and Western Digital is currently around 8 or 10Gb. But don’t be too excited yet as samsung targeted this product for enterprise customers, there is no announcement yet when it will be available for general public. But it may not take long before it will be available for ordinary people like us.
This SSD is using a new technology which they call 3D V-NAND flash memory. It is based on 48 layers of 3-bit multi-level-cell (MLC) arrays for use in solid state drives (SSDs). With the introduction of this technology(also known as 3rd generation V-NAND flash memory), we can have a 1TB smartphone in the future.
